A Peony Bouquet In The Moonlight

Regular price £770.00
/

A fine art painting showing a peony bouquet basking in the glow of the moonlight. There is a slight sentiment of melancholy that can be sensed coming from the painting. One can almost feel the peonies reaching for the last rays of light before the darkness of the late evening falls over them.

This painting is an experiment in mixed media on both silk and canvas. The white flowers in the foreground were created with Chinese ink and pigments on silk. Then, the silk was mounted onto canvas previously painted black. Finally, fragments of silk were burnt to make the canvas visible. The remaining flower elements were developed in oil to form depth. It was one of a series of three in this experiment.

Splendour

There seems to be no better word than “splendour” to describe this painting.

The inspiration came to The Peony Girl during one of many times when she visited the wonderful properties of the National Trust.
It was a well-known country house and there was a magnificent bouquet of flowers in the oriental room.

It was one of those moments of pure inspiration when the Chinese background and her new home’s Western influence fused together and gave The Peony Girl the idea for this painting.

This piece was an experiment of different media on both silk and canvas. The red and pink flowers were first created with Chinese ink and pigments on silk using gongbi technique. Then, it was mounted onto the canvas and finished off with a touch of oil paint to form a three-dimensional effect.

Waterlily

Regular price £770.00
/

This painting was created as one of The Peony Girl’s experiments with mixed media. The waterlily was painted with Chinese ink and pigments on silk to emphasise its purity, together with delicate features of the dragonfly. Other elements of the painting were added after mounting the silk onto canvas and painted in oil, to create heavier, crude texture contrasting with the lotus. The whole painting took around 22 hours to finish.

The name "Rising Above the Silt", is a Chinese phrase used to describe a waterlily that grows out of muddy waters - like lilies growing in the marsh - yet untouched by the impurity, clean and beautiful. It implies virtue, purity and high moral values that are not tainted by the unfavourable environment.

This painting has won the major prize of The Yellow Book Project (nationwide) to help support mental wellbeing.

We are sorry but another collector has purchased this painting already. It is available now as fine art prints.

The chrysanthemums were painted with traditional Chinese method, and sealed with wax, on top of which the vase, the table and the clothes were painted in oil. This method helps to bring out the three-dimensional effect.

The vase is empty longing for flowers; but the flowers on the wall live in a different world. They seem so close, but yet so far apart.

The painting was created with Chinese ink and pigments, wax and oil on wood panel over 20 hours

Size (unframed): 40cm (H) x 30cm (W) x 0.5 (D)

We are sorry but another collector has purchased this painting already. It is available now as fine art prints.

The peony flowers and the birds of heaven were created in the traditional Chinese method, and sealed with wax, on top of which the piano was painted with oil. This brings out the three-dimensional effect.

This painting quietly celebrates the beauty of melancholy.
