This painting is an experiment of different media on both silk and canvas. The waterlily was created with Chinese ink and pigments on silk to emphasise its purity. The rest was developed with a mix of oil and ink, to form a heavy texture, creating a contrast with the waterlily.
“Rising above the Silt” is a Chinese phrase depicting waterlily grows out of muddy water, but has kept its purity. This implies the virtuous of integrity.
This painting has won the major prize of The Yellow Book Project (nationwide) to help support mental wellbeing.
