The Chinese New Year mural celebrating the start of the Year of the Tiger,  commissioned by John Lewis & Partners, is now available in our store as giclée fine art prints!

The original wall mural was created on nine square plywood panels connected together, using chalk paint. It features auspicious symbols - tiger, tree peonies, and cranes - to bring good luck and prosperity in the Chinese New Year 2022. 

During its creation, which took over ten days, the Spring Festival mural was seen by many visitors in Highcross Shopping Centre, Leicester, and was featured on BBC and ITV News. Read the story and progress of the original mural here.

We are offering various sizes suitable for different needs. Starting from the smallest print, which could be a colourful, lively element of the decor, to large wall art, which would make a statement no smaller than the original artwork.

Product description  

This fine art print is produced on demand on archival paper using the giclée printing technique. Giclée prints are produced with a very high resolution and thanks to it, they are a perfect reproduction of the original art.

The original painting was created using ink and pigments on rice paper. It's part of the three-painting set “Xanadu” which was inspired by a classical Chinese poem “The Peach Blossom Spring” and the idea of an idyllic, peaceful place. The original painting (available here) was created as an experiment in mixed media. First, Chinese ink and pigments were used to paint flowers and leaves on silk, and at the same time, a painting in oil was created on canvas. Then the silk was mounted on canvas with a finishing touch of oil paint.

The original painting was created with Chinese ink and pigments, wax and oil on a wood panel and took over 20 hours to finish. The chrysanthemums were painted with traditional Chinese method with ink and a thin brush, then sealed with wax. Then, the vase, the table and the clothes were painted in oil on top, to bring out the three-dimensional effect. The vase is empty longing for flowers, but the flowers on the wall live in a different world than the vase. They seem so close, but yet so far apart.

The original painting was created with Chinese ink and pigments, wax and oil on a wood panel and took over 20 hours to finish. The peony flowers and the birds of heaven were created in the traditional Chinese method with ink and a thin brush, then sealed with wax. Later, the piano was painted in oil on top, which brought out the three-dimensional effect. The painting is a celebration of a peaceful moment caught in time with a sense of melancholy.

The painting depicts a pair of butterflies - two lovers who couldn't be together, just like Romeo and Juliet, or as in the famous Chinese story "Butterfly Lovers". After death, they became butterflies and they could finally be unified. Portrayed together with a peony inspired by a Chinese classical poem, the painting symbolizes elegance and the beauty of the lovers' feelings for each other.
