The original was created using ink and pigments on rice paper, and it took over 20 hours to finish. It shows a scene celebrating autumn in a romantic and idealistic setting because peonies flower in spring, not autumn. The blooming peonies with the autumn moon are put together to represent prosperity and perfection of life.
