Peony Portrait - Red

An original painting portraying a red peony, painted using ink and pigments on rice paper. It took over 11 hours to finish. 

The painting is one of the series of portraits of peonies of different colours. The series is Siyuan’s take on botanical painting - which requires scientific accuracy and detail - but painted in Chinese gongbi style, with an added layer of artistic creativity, aesthetics and freedom. 

Each portrait in the series shows a peony with a different personality. The Red Peony is outgoing, bubbly, enjoying herself to the fullest. She is intoxicated with life and welcomes the beauty that the world has to offer.
