Peony Portrait - Yellow

Regular price £892.00

An original painting portraying a yellow peony. It was painted using ink and pigments on rice paper and took over 11 hours to finish.

It's one of the series of portraits of peonies of different colours. The series is Siyuan’s take on botanical painting - which requires scientific detail and accuracy - but painted in Chinese gongbi style, with an added layer of aesthetics, artistic creativity and freedom.

Each piece in the series portrays a peony with a different personality. The Yellow Peony is calm, strong and modest - quietly expressing herself and unassuming. Her elegance, grace and beauty of her petals can clearly be seen by others so there is no need to boast about it.

If you like the painting but would prefer to purchase a fine art print - you can find it here.

Size (including the frame): 62 cm x 85 cm x 5 cm.

Original painting of a pink peony on a light blue background. The painting was created with pigments and ink on rice paper over 4 hours.

It is one of my most popular fine art prints as many clients tell my they love the brightness and brashness of the colours. It is a nice way to bring a room with little sunlight some of the beauty of an English garden in summer.

Original painting of a dark pink peony on a turquoise background.

The painting was created with pigments and ink on rice paper over 4 hours.

Turquoise is such as a special colour to me and the name we use today is derived from a French word meaning "Turkish" because the mineral found its way to Europe through Turkey from the Middle East and the Far East.

It was also well known to the Aztecs who referred to is as chalchihuitl. Maybe it should be Chalchihuitl Dream?

Size (unframed): 30cm x 30cm
